New York Comic Con returns to the Javits Center October 8-11 for its 20th anniversary, and organizer ReedPop is marking the milestone with a Coney Island theme that brings a boardwalk sensibility into the convention floor, complete with anniversary merchandise designed around vintage sideshow and amusement park aesthetics.
The celebration extends beyond decor. ReedPop has partnered directly with Coney Island for the anniversary, expanded the convention’s cosplay areas to handle what’s expected to be an especially large turnout, and introduced a reduced-price ticket for Thursday after 3pm, making the opening day more accessible for fans who can’t commit to a full-day pass.
Thursday’s programming leads with a Marvel Television and Marvel Animation panel, alongside a “FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION” session featuring the game’s English voice cast and director Naoki Hamaguchi, a “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” retrospective, and a first-look screening of Peacock and A24’s upcoming “Crystal Lake” series.
Friday’s lineup shifts toward a broader mix of fan-favorite franchises, with panels dedicated to “Avatar: Seven Havens,” “One Piece,” “Ghosts,” “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon,” “Violent Night 2,” “Bob’s Burgers” and “Futurama,” spanning everything from long-running animated staples to newer streaming originals. “Dungeon Crawler Carl” author Matt Dinniman gets his own Friday spotlight, reflecting the convention’s continued emphasis on literary genre fiction alongside its TV and film programming.
The weekend closes out with a deep dive into the “Star Trek” universe on Saturday and an “NCIS: New York” panel on Sunday, rounding out a four-day schedule built to showcase both the franchises that have anchored Comic Con for two decades and the newer titles competing for the same devoted fan base that’s kept the convention growing since its first edition twenty years ago.
